Where are you based?
I am based in the mountain town Åre in the north-west of Sweden.

Where's your favourite place to ride?
Åre offers many great rides both for mountain bike and road cycling and I love riding here. One of my favorite road rides is the 100k roundtrip from Åre and west to Storulvån mountain station. The last 15k’s to Storulvån used to be a rough gravel road, but since a few years back it’s all smooth asfalt and a superb ride through the mountains. There are also numerous great trails for mountain biking in the area that offer magic riding.

I’ve never done any mountain biking outside Sweden but I have been on some road cycling trips to France, Italy and Mallorca. In Mallorca I think the ride out to the lighthouse on Cap de Formentor is close to perfect – hard climbs, excellent descents and great scenery. Not very long, but it has to be among the best 40k’s you can ride on a bike. Mt. Ventoux in France is one of the most memorable rides I’ve ever done and a place I want to visit again.

What type of riding do you like to do the most?
Flat rides are not my thing and I love riding in the mountains with long climbs and floating down the descents that follow. Nice weather and summer rides are all good, but those days I often remember most are autumn or winter rides with changing weather and great scenery.

How do you discover a new route? Do you plan ahead with maps or just see where the road takes you?
I am not much of a planner and if I am riding alone I often just ride and make decisions along the way. Most of my friends are much better at planing than I am and I don’t mind just following. But when I do plan rides I use Strava and Google maps to get an idea which will be the best ride in the area where I am.

What equipment do you use to capture your ride?
I work as a photographer and for those days when I prioritize photography, and not the riding, I ride with a backpack loaded with a Canon 5d MKIII or a 1Dx along with a number of lenses. When it comes to smaller cameras I’ve been going through a few models the last few years and finally ended up with a Lumix LX100 that I think work really great. Small enough to fit in a jersey pocket and it has most of the features that I want on a camera. Before the LX100 I used a Fujifilm X-T1 and a Sony NEX5 but I quite often ended up not bringing those cameras along when road biking because they where a bit too big. I had to use a small camera bag on my back for those cameras but I don’t like road cycling with anything on my back. If I do ride with a backpack I rather just bring my SLR and don’t compromise the quality of the images.

What destination would be on your riding wish list?
Iceland and Japan are two places I always wanted to visit and I would love to discover those places on a bike. Even if I live less than 200 kilometers from Norway I’ve hardly done any riding there and the fiords of Norway are definitely on my list for this year. Another thing I am really looking forward to is a planned 3-4 day mountain bike trip in the mountains at home, where we will bring tents and discover some new trails where I have not ridden before.
