Where are you based?
Banff, Alberta, Canada

Where's your favourite place to ride?
One of my favourite rides is from my home in Banff National Park to Kananaskis Country and back again.  It is a long distance ride that involves fire roads, single track, gravel roads and even a paved commuter path that brings me back home from the town of Canmore.  I usually do around 150 to 200km round trip but sometimes I end it with pitching camp and riding back in the morning so that I can travel even farther into the back country.  In the winter my favourite is to ride across the street from my apartment and right onto the frozen river and ride as far upriver as possible.  Each season in Banff provides such different and incredible riding.

What type of riding do you like to do the most?
I like long distance riding with a lot of variety from paved roads to fire roads and onto single track.  I always ride right from my apartment and I find a lot of freedom in never needing to transport my bicycle to go on a ride.  There are so many options in Banff National Park in any direction I might travel and I try to take advantage of the wide variety of riding here from the single track trails to meandering along beautiful and quiet paved mountain roads.  In the winter fat biking dominates my type of riding and winter riding has definitely become my favourite.  It is so quiet and peaceful and there are so many new options for getting far into the back country and finding new terrain as it literally changes with the snow and ice conditions from day to day.  It is a much slower and methodical way of riding and that is what I enjoy the most about winter riding.

How do you discover a new route? Do you plan ahead with maps or just see where the road takes you?
I only know the the basic direction I will be heading in when I go out for a ride most days and depending on the amount of time I have on that particular day will determine how much exploring off the beaten path and distance that I will ride.  My favourite part is discovering a new section of a fire road or finding a new road that branches off of a main paved road that I ride often or connecting onto a different single track trail system by making a different turn somewhere than I normally would take.  I really like not having a particular plan if possible and just go as far as I can in the time allotted and see where I end up.  I certainly have never ended up anywhere bad!

What equipment do you use to capture your ride?
I have a Nikon D700 that I carry with me occasionally depending on the weather and what kind of ride I am partaking on and then there is always the iPhone that tends to get used more often than not.

What destination would be on your riding wish list?
I have been intrigued by and following a blog called Bike Life in Swedish Lapland and I would really love to take my fat bike over there and explore the Bay of Bothnia region and beyond during the winter months.
